Rufus, our 1982 Cadillac Eldorado, follows a sweeping mountain road through the ancient Appalachian landscape, with the misty ridges and endless valleys of Virginia unfolding beyond the bend. After leaving the intensity and humidity of Washington D.C., we headed into the wilderness in search of a different America—the one found beyond the cities, along quiet roads and forgotten horizons.

We were chasing the promise of Skyline Drive, the legendary 105-mile route through Shenandoah National Park, where the road rises and falls with the contours of the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering some of the most dramatic scenery on the East Coast.

The title comes from John Denver’s 1971 classic Take Me Home, Country Roads, a song that captured a longing for simpler places, open landscapes and a deeper connection with the land. Though written about West Virginia, its spirit belongs to the entire Appalachian region—the winding roads, mountain communities and timeless landscapes that have inspired generations of musicians and travellers.

For us, this was the moment the journey began to move away from America’s cities and towards its natural heartland. After thousands of miles of highways and urban landscapes, the Cadillac finally found the roads it was made for: open, winding and disappearing into the mountains ahead.

Country Roads is a tribute to the romance of the American road—the places where the journey slows down, the landscape opens up, and the horizon feels endless.

All Losing Eldorado editions are premium Giclee digital prints on Hahnemühle Pearl photographic paper.

Each print is part of a limited-edition series and is available either unframed or professionally framed in black wood with glass and a classic white card mount.
