Dilemma - Mid-Texas

"Dilemma" was the Billboard Hot 100 hit record by Nelly that was all over the US airwaves in 2002. A dilemma is also the situation one may find yourself when trying to pick a fast food joint to stop at on the interstate. Several other songs defined the summer of ‘02, such as “How You Remind Me” by a band everyone loves to hate, Nickelback, “A Thousand Miles” by one-hit wonder Vanessa Carlton, “Complicated” by pop-punk Avril Lavigne, but Nelly was the absolute king. 

There was no tape or CD player in Rufus (our 1982 Cadillac Eldorado), so we had to listen to the FM radio if we wanted any aural entertainment. This was a blessing in disguise as it forced us to listen to the radio and imbibe the changing flavours of each region as we moved from state to state. With some careful winding of the radio dial, we could sometimes locate an independent radio station where a DJ was free to the music they had chosen, rather than the station’s controllers. For a brief moment, we might hear a slice of musical heaven before the frequency started to waver and another station’s dreadful jingle or a trite commercial advert began to phase in.
