Towering thunderheads gather over Austin, TX, turning the afternoon sky into a brooding spectacle of light and shadow. The clouds appear almost architectural, rising in immense columns before collapsing into sheets of rain somewhere beyond the horizon. They are beautiful, but they carry an unmistakable sense of menace.

The title comes from the overlooked 1974 soul epic by The Tymes, If It Rains On You, It Rains On Me (Everybody's Under the Same Cloud). More than a love song, it is a meditation on our shared humanity, built around the simple but profound idea that none of us exists in isolation. Whatever storms one person faces eventually touch us all.

Standing beneath this Trxas sky, that sentiment feels inescapable. Weather is the great leveller. It pays no attention to wealth, politics, race or status. Farmers, truck drivers, musicians and travellers alike all look upward with the same mixture of awe and apprehension when the sky begins to darken.

There is something truly powerful bout a thunderstorm on the open road. The landscape stretches towards an uncertain horizon while the atmosphere builds with almost cinematic intensity, reminding us how small we are beneath nature's immense theatre.

The photograph is less about the storm itself than what it represents. We spend much of our lives drawing lines between ourselves—states, cities, beliefs and backgrounds—but when the clouds gather overhead, those distinctions begin to dissolve. As The Tymes quietly observed half a century ago, everybody is under the same cloud.
