About the Photo
Our 1982 Cadillac Eldorado, Rufus, glides towards the camera, its broad chrome grille and endless hood filling the frame beneath a warm 1970s-style lens flare. Behind it, downtown Chicago rises from the streets in steel and glass while the iconic 'L' train rattles overhead, a city where American industry, music and movement have always travelled side by side.
The photograph captures the romance of the classic American automobile against one of the nation's greatest urban landscapes. Rufus is more than a car; he's a faithful travelling companion, carrying us through the cities, highways and stories that define the American experience.
Named after the blues standard Sweet Home Chicago, immortalised by generations of musicians from Robert Johnson to Buddy Guy and The Blues Brothers, the image is a tribute to the city that became the beating heart of electric blues. Here, chrome meets concrete, history meets motion, and every street seems to echo with the sound of a guitar heading home.
