About the Photo
A lone DHL delivery truck turns onto the legendary Route 66, joining the endless flow of vehicles that crisscross America every day. One truck among thousands, it becomes a symbol of constant movement, connecting towns, cities and lives across a vast landscape. Ahead, the double yellow centre line draws the eye towards an impossibly distant horizon, disappearing into the flat Oklahoma plains where road and sky seem to merge.
The image reflects the enduring mythology of the American highway—an idea built as much on ordinary journeys as epic adventures. Every mile promises possibility, while every destination is simply another point along the route.
Its title is borrowed from Robert Earl Keen's The Road Goes On Forever, immortalised by The Highwaymen: Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. Like the song, the photograph speaks to the restless spirit of America, where stories unfold one mile at a time and the road itself is often more significant than where it leads
